Veterans enjoy a day of fishing on Lake Lanier thanks to the Safari Club of Georgia

More than two dozen Purple Heart recipients from various branches of service took part in a 3-day weekend of fishing and boating on Lake Lanier in mid-July.

Sponsored by the Georgia Chapter Safari Club International, the weekend included a fishing tournament, a dinner cruise and recognitions from Gov. Brian Kemp, DNR Commissioner Mark Williams and DNR Law Enforcement Division Col. Thomas Barnard.

“The wounded veterans and their families hosted each year on Lake Lanier have given much to their country to protect our freedoms,” said Dick Caillouet, vice president of Georgia Chapter of Safari Club International. “This is just one small way that we can show our appreciation for their service and sacrifice.”

Safari Club International is a non-profit volunteer organization that promotes hunting heritage through education, conservation and humanitarian initiatives. The Georgia Chapter was founded in 1981. For more information visit GeorgiaSCI.org.
