UYC Commodore Mike Lee, left, and UYC Maritime Foundation President Eric Ringwall congratulate Ava Simmons, this year’s Employee Scholarship recipient.

Each year, University Yacht Club Board of Governors awards a scholarship to an employee to contribute to their college education. This year’s recipient is Ava Simmons, who has worked with the club’s dining services for more than three years.

“Ava is very deserving of this scholarship to begin her studies at the University of North Georgia,” said UYC Commodore Mike Lee. “She has been an asset to our team and always has a smile on her face and a kind word.”

She also worked alongside her twin sisters, Mia and Zoe, at the club; they both are former UYC scholarship recipients.

Ava graduated as Salutatorian from Sugar Hill Christian Academy where she was active in theater, music, fine arts, cheerleading and sports, including archery and soccer.

“My favorite thing about working at UYC has to be the members. They are all so, so sweet, and I love talking to them and hearing their stories,” she said. “I am so very grateful for everything UYC has done for me and my family.”

University Yacht Club is the employer and administers the scholarship; while the UYC Maritime Foundation serves as the club’s philanthropic partner and provides additional funding.
