“We have structured the starts to consider boat speeds, maneuverability and safety,” said Jeff Mogan, of the Poker Run committee. “The Go-Fast boats follow the longest route that include the Olympic Venue.”

All starts take place at Buford Dam and three of the four classes have card pick-ups at Habersham Marina, Margaritaville, Holiday Marina, Port Royale, Gainesville Marina and a houseboat at Cocktail Cove. The Go-Fast boats will do their turn-around at the Olympic Venue.

Saturday’s awards banquet and party begins at 3 p.m. at Landshark Bar & Grill and features an auction, raffle, music, participant awards and a bikini contest.

Ways you can give and stay dry

The event also includes a call to sponsor a child from the Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Homes to attend the weekend event. Sponsorships are $500 per child, covering the costs of travel, accommodations, meals and ancillary activities.

“Make sure to get your boat registered,” Mogan said. “Pick your favorite pirate outfit and enjoy this great weekend of events.”

The organization continues to accept sponsorships as well.
