A family enjoys a day on the water during last year’s Freedom Event.
For the sixth year, Port Royale Marina on Lake Lanier is hosting a 2-day event to give veterans and children with special needs and their families respite on the water. Organized by the Freedom Waters Foundation, the September 12-13 event includes therapeutic boating experiences, music, and lunch for participants and volunteers.
“Our Freedom Waters Foundation Weller Days boating experiences continue to grow each fall as more veterans and children with special needs and their families leave their challenges on the docks to enjoy the freedom and joy of being on the water,” said Nukhet Hendricks, President and CEO of Freedom Waters Foundation, based in Naples, Fla. “Our volunteers are the lifeblood of our events at Lake Lanier, and we encourage boaters to register prior to September 4 so that we can provide therapeutic boat experiences for all registered participants.”
Events on Saturday, Sept. 12, focus on veterans; Sunday activities serve children with special needs and their families. The events are open at no charge; however, advanced registration is required.
Boat owners will be asked to volunteer themselves as skippers and their boats for one or both days and to register at freedomwatersfoundation.org.
