By sometime in 2029, a new luxury hotel and resort should be completed near Cresswind at Lake Lanier off Browns Bridge Road. The plan was approved in mid-February by the Gainesville City Council.
To be developed by Capstone Property Group, the 38-acre property on the north side of Ivey Road is planned to have a hotel with a maximum of 177 rooms, restaurants, a spa and fitness center, pickleball courts and an infinity pool. According to the company’s request, seven two-story lakeside detached cottages and 14 duplex estate homes will be built in the resort.
The city council voted to grant a change in zoning from previously approved high-rise condominiums, single-family lots and a marina with dry-stock storage, gas sales, a restaurant and a convenience store.
At the council meeting, several citizens voiced concerns about the increase in traffic and the appropriateness of the project’s size. Other opposition comments included the effects on wildlife and decreased property values.
The zoning request was approved with several stipulations, including Capstone’s building a fence on the property line it shares with Cresswind, which was requested by the Cresswind Homeowners Association.
Construction should start early next year with completion planned for sometime in 2029.
