Boys "shooting hoops" at Rubber Duck Derby

There were treats, activities, music and more at this year’s Rubber Duck Derby

Brian Whalen of Flowery Branch walked away from this year’s Boys & Girls Clubs of Lanier Grand Prize of $10,000 last month. He was among the thousands of duck adopters for the annual event, which this year broke records.

“This year’s event was the most successful ever,” said Brenda Bohn, development and communications director of the Northeast Georgia organization. “The weather was ideal and we had an excellent crowd.”

Kids’ activities and an assortment of food and beverages kept attendees entertained at Lake Lanier Olympic Park. Musician Jake Dupree performed.

Here’s the list of top winners: Brian Whalen, Flowery Branch, $10,000 Grand Prize; Taylor Forrester, Hoschton, Diamond Solitaire from Gainesville Jewelry; Stacia Charpiat, Gainesville, Kipper Tool General Mechanics Tool Kit; Antonio Torres, Dawsonville, Legacy at Lanier golf and lodging package; Susan Gantick, Dawsonville, Main Event Family Arcade Package; Ashley Williams, Gainesville, Deshaun Watson Autographed Football.

“This is the first time in our event’s 23-year history that every single duck has been adopted,” she said. “The duck derby is always one of our most popular fundraising events. And after not being able to hold the event in 2020 because of the pandemic, people were so eager to be outdoors and get together for a good cause. We couldn’t have asked for a better day.”
