Marie T. Cochran: Notes of an Affrilachian Daughter in the Time of COVID-19

Born in Toccoa, Georgia, Cochran is an artist, curator, writer, and educator. Her work highlights the historic and contemporary contributions of African Americans to Appalachian culture. In 2011, she developed the Affrilachian Art Project, using a term developed by Frank X Walker. In conjunction with her exhibition at the MSMA, Cochran will be featured as the keynote speaker for the 2021 Lillian E. Smith Center’s bi-annual symposium on the Demorest campus.
