Lake Lanier Olympic Park has its first Olympic gold medalist and it came during the 25th anniversary of the 1996 Atlanta Games. Nevin Harrison, 19, who has been training at the Lanier venue for the past two years, won gold during the Women’s C-1 200m Sprint final at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

Harrison, who is from Seattle, made it into the 2020 Olympics after winning the Women’s C1 200m at the 2019 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in Szeged, Hungary in 2019. She was the first American ever to win a world title in a canoe sprint event. Lakeside will have coverage of her historic win in the upcoming September issue.
