Olympics 25th Anniversary Celebration
The fire of the Olympic spirit will sparkle again Aug. 7th as Gainesville celebrates the 25th Anniversary of the 1996 Summer Olympics.
Date: August 7, 2021
Time:
8:00 am – Porch to Torch 5K / 1-mile: Follow the course run by local Olympic torchbearers, plus interactive mini-Olympic Village. (to sign up: Gainesville/PorchtoTorch5K), City Park, 549 Glenwood Ave. NE., Gainesville, $30
6:00 – 10:00 pm – Evening Gala – Gates open at 6:00 pm – Sample International food, beverages, and music, plus main stage concert and fireworks, Lake Lanier Olympic Park, 3105 Clarks Bridge Rd. Gainesville, $100 individuals, Sponsorships available and range from $750 to $1,500.
8:00 pm – “We’ve Got the Beat” – a Georgia band playing tunes from Abba to Zac Brown
Fireworks – the evening concludes with fireworks over the site where Olympic contenders raced a quarter-century ago.
