Dredging: good for the lake, and environment
In
the past 12 months, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has issued
dredging permits to remove 210,000 cubic yards of silt from the
lake. That means additional storage capacity in the lake has been
increased by just over 44 million gallons of water.
That’s just
one of the benefits of dredging, but it’s a very relevant one.

Gen. returns to address LLA at annual meeting
On
Monday, May 19, Brig. Gen. Joseph Schroedel will be the featured
speaker at the annual meeting of the Lake Lanier Association. The
meeting will be held at Lakeview Center in Dawsonville and will
begin at 6 p.m. with refreshments. During the meeting, the
association’s board of directors will update the membership about
the group’s current activities and events.

perspective Olympians
Nearly 12 years after
Olympic paddlers competed on Lake Lanier, four athletes from the
Lanier Canoe & Kayak Club have a shot at qualifying for the Aug.
18-22 2008 Olympics in Beijing. Following is a brief look at these
young people whose Olympic aspirations began on Lanier and have
taken them far beyond its shores.
