Parks & Campgrounds

The Corps of Engineers welcomes you to beautiful Harwell Lake. Located on the border of Georgia and South Carolina, the lake offers some of the finest camping opportunities in the South.

The Corps operates 9 campgrounds at Hartwell (see map below). Camping enthusiasts may enjoy the luxuries of fully developed areas with water and electrical hookups or “rough it” at designated primitive areas.

Most campgrounds have park attendants on duty to assist our visitors. Camping in undesignated areas such as on the lake’s shoreline and islands is prohibited.

Rules and Regulations

The following guidelines are not intended as restraints to the enjoyment of park visitors, but as aids for orderly operation, visitor safety and for the protection of the environment and public property. Complete rules and regulations are posted at the entrances to all campgrounds and copies are available at entry stations.

REGISTRATION: All campers and their visitors are required to register at the entry station.

CAMPSITE OCCUPANCY: To prevent overuse of park facilities each campsite is limited to a maximum of 8 people and 3 motorized vehicles. Due to limited parking space only one camping unit (trailer, motor home etc.) is allowed on each site. All tents must be placed on the designated impact area.

VISITORS of registered campers are welcome. However, the total number of campers and visitors on the campsite must not exceed 8 people. Visitors must depart the campground by 9:30 p.m., or when the camper checks out prior to this time. Visitors of registered campers are required to pay a $3.00 per vehicle user fee.

CHECKOUT TIME is 2 p.m. An additional fee will be charged for late departure.

CHECK IN TIME for reservations are guaranteed after 3 p.m.

LENGTH of stay for campers is no longer then 14 days during any 30 consecutive days.

MINORS: Only adults (18 or over) may rent campsites. Children may not be left in areas without supervision.

MOTORIZED VEHICLES: Park passes must be displayed in vehicles where readily visible. All motorized vehicles in the park must be street legal and operated by licensed drivers. Vehicles may only be operated on roadways. Parking off designated areas is prohibited.

GARBAGE should be deposited at the dumpster located near the park’s entry station. Please keep campsites clean.

GRAY WATER: The discharge of gray water and sewage is prohibited. Please use dump stations.

PARK GATES: Park gates are locked from 10:00 p.m. until 7 a.m. For emergencies, contact the park attendant.

NOISE: Quiet hours are from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. Unreasonable or excessive noise at any time is prohibited.

PETS must be kept on a leash not exceeding 6 feet in length. Pets are not allowed in restrooms, playgrounds, shelters or designated swim areas.

FIRES must be confined in designated fire rings or grills. Only dead wood on the ground may be used for firewood.

FIREWORKS, firearms, explosives and projectile firing devices are prohibited.

SWIMMING is recommended only at designated beach areas. No lifeguards are provided. Swimming is at your own risk. Never swim alone.

ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES are prohibited in all parks.

RESERVATIONS for individual and group campsites can be made by calling 1-877-444-6777 or on the web at www.reserveusa.com. All other family campsites at Lake Hartwell are available only on a first come basis.

GROUP CAMPING: Organized groups are welcome to use the group camping areas at Crescent Group and Mill-town campgrounds. Call the campground for reservations.

ACCESSIBLE FACILITIES: The Corps of Engineers at Lake Hartwell  is actively involved in providing facilities which are accessible to the disabled. Most campgrounds are accessible.

PICNIC SHELTERS are available at several Corps’ parks around the lake. Call the Hartwell Project Office. Details: 888-893-0678.

DAY USE PARKS:

Hartwell Lake offers 15 Corps managed recreation areas for people who want to spend the day (or maybe just an hour or two...) at the lake. Because camping is not allowed within these areas, they are commonly referred to as "day use" areas. Most of the day use areas have amenities such as picnic tables, playgrounds, boat launching ramps, courtesy docks, restrooms, picnic shelters (reservable!), facilities for the handicapped, drinking water, and swim beaches. In addition, the Corps manages 29 "access" areas on Hartwell Lake. Access areas are smaller recreation areas that typically have a boat launching ramp only, however, some may have restrooms and picnic tables.
