• Clemsonfest is July 3,
starting at 5 p.m. at the Y Beach across Lake Hartwell from the
Clemson University campus. The early part of the evening is a
family-oriented event. After fireworks over the lake, adults take
over the evening and dance to beach music into the night. Call

• A 4th of July Gorge Floor Hike
is scheduled at Tallulah Gorge State Park, leaving from the
interpretive center at 10 a.m. A ranger will lead hikers to Sliding
Rock. Register in advance by calling 706-754-7981. Parking is $4.
• An Old Fashioned 4th is the
theme of a July 5 celebration at Tugaloo State Park near Lavonia.
Events begin at 9 a.m. with a bicycle parade. Old time games on the
ballfield begin at 1 p.m. and include sack races, three-legged
races, various relays, egg and water balloon tosses and other
events. A putt-putt tournament for ages 12 and under begins at 3
p.m. Putt-Putt is $2 and parking is $3. Call 706-356-4362.
• Mountain Herb Day is 9 a.m.-1
p.m. July 12 at Smithgall Woods Conservation Area, a unit of
Georgia’s state parks near Helen. Register in advance. The course is

• Junior Ranger Week at Tallulah
Gorge State Park is July 14-18 for ages 6-8 and July 21-25 for ages
9-12. The theme is “Wildlife at Tallulah Gorge.” Pre-registration is
required. The program is $20 and parking is $4. Call 706-754-7981.
• Junior Ranger Camp at Victoria
Bryant State Park is July 14-18 for ages 6-9 and July 21-25 for ages
10-12. Registration is $12 for the younger kids and $18 for the
older group. Pre-registration is required. Activities include
swimming, hiking and a cookout as the campers work toward earning a

• The Franklin Community Players
in Carnesville presents Disney’s The Jungle Book Kids, their summer
drama camp production. The play will be staged at 6:30 p.m. July 18

• Clemson Little Theatre
presents Dial “M” for Murder July 25-27 and Aug. 1-2 at the
Pendleton Playhouse on Mechanic Street in Pendleton. The story
revolves around Tony Wendice, who has married his wife for her money
and now plans to murder her for the same reason. Friday and Saturday
shows are at 8 p.m. and the Sunday matinee begins at 3 p.m. Tickets

• Basket Making with Native
Materials, a course of Smithgall Woods Conservation Area, is 10
a.m.-3 p.m. July 26. Participants will make an eight-inch basket
woven from grapevine, cattails, rattan and other materials. Take
scissors, pruning shears, a small bucket or basin and apron.
Register in advance. The course is $20 and parking is $3. Call

• A Confederate Encampment takes
place Aug. 2-3, at Hart State Park. Watch weaponry, drilling and
marching demonstrations, then learn about uniforms, tents and
equipment from the Civil War. The encampment is open until 5 p.m.
Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday. Parking is $3. Call 706-376-8756 for

• Blue Highway performs at 7
p.m. Aug. 2 at the Walhalla Civic Auditorium. Tickets are $20. Blue
Highway is a contemporary bluegrass band with eight albums to their
credit. Tickets are available at the Booksmith, Musician’s Den,
Sensibly Chic and the Chamber of Commerce in Seneca, as well as
Village Framer and Common Grounds in Walhalla.
• Gold Fever, a program at
Smithgall Woods Conservation Center, is about the history of local
gold mining and the geology of the area. See gold specimens and
watch a panning demonstration. Register in advance. Parking is $3.
