• Sept. 2-4 – “Shorts in Dahlonega,” presented by The Green Mountain Theatre Co. at the Holly Theatre lower level includes one-act plays. Time: 8 p.m. Admission: $12, adults; $10, students and seniors. Info: 706-864-3759.

• Sept. 4 – “Forever Kings and Queens,” presented during the Banks County Holiday Festival in the town square of Homer. Time: 12:30 p.m.

• Sept. 18 – Seventh Annual Art in the Square Juried Art Show held in Gainesville Square 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

• Sept. 18 – Craft Fair hosted by the Rho Eta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority held 1-4 p.m. at Brenau University amphitheater on Prior Street in Gainesville.

Elachee Nature Center

• Sept. 4, Oct. 2, Nov. 6, Dec. 4 – 1st Saturday Hikes held 10-11:30 a.m. Learn about local native plants and animals. Monthly hike is a great way to explore the Chicopee Woods with an experienced guide. Free for members.

• Sept. 11 – Elachee’s Snake Day from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. has grown to be a festival of all things reptilian along with crafts, facepainting and guided hikes to the special live animal presentations.

• Oct. 2 – Safari 2010 “Inspired by Nature” Benefit Auction Dinner held from 6-10 p.m. at Elachee will feature festive seasonal decorations, live jazz music, beverage bar, low-country boil seated dinner and silent & live auction of unique items, trips and artwork. Proceeds support Elachee’s environmental education programs & preservation work in Chicopee Woods Nature Preserve. Tickets $75.

• Oct. 30 – Elachee’s Family Fall Festival features a live animal program, play games, make crafts and face painting held 2-5 p.m.

• Dec. 11 – Winter in the Woods Holiday Celebration held 10 a.m.-1 p.m. featuring hiking, holiday crafting and music.

• Spring and Fall – Stars Over Elachee held Fridays, Saturdays and/or Sundays at dusk. Learn to use a telescope and star chart to view stars, planets and constellations in the night sky. Pre-registration is required. Fee: $10, adults; $5, children through age 12; free, members.  Call for dates and times.

• Spring and Fall – Backyard Conservation Workshops, Compost and Rainwater Collection instruct in recycling natural resources. Call for dates and times.

Georgia Mountain Fair

• Oct. 8-16 – Georgia Mountain Fall Festival features opening day flower show with Jim Wood and The Georgia Mountain Fair Band performing at 2 p.m. and the music show with performances by Janie Fricke, John Conlee and T.G. Sheppard at 3 p.m. & 6:30 p.m.

• Sept. 1-3 – Pirate Craft Week, become a pirate and make an eye patch.

• Sept. 3, 7 – Captain Conservation visits to help learn about how to conserve water and our planet, 11 a.m.-noon.

• Sept. 7-10 – 9/11 Craft Week where heroes from 9/11 are remembered by doing patriotic crafts.

• Sept. 13-17 – Pig Craft Week, make a “crafty” pig.

• Sept. 18 – Art in the Square, from 10 a.m.-7 p.m., features The Youth Artist Market, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., in Gainesville square.

• Sept. 20-24 – World Gratitude Week featuring how to make Thank You notes for someone special.

• Sept. 27-30 – Book Craft Week featuring how to make bookmarks and your very own book.

• Oct. 4-8 – Random Acts of Kindness Craft Week, decorate “how to be kind to others” coupon books.

• Oct. 11-15 – Farm Craft Week, learn about life on the farm.

• Oct. 1-31 – Haunted Nights of Lights, from 7-11 p.m., features a three-mile driving tour through haunted lights displays including Dracula and the Flying Bats, Giant Serpent Beast and Beast Keeper, Virtual Tunnel with 100 Flying Ghosts, Frankenstein and his bride and Leaping Goblins. The tour ends at the Haunted Village for rides, games and goodies and a Family Fun House. Admission: $20 per carload, Mon.-Thurs.; $25, Fri.-Sun.
